Water Resources
Here is a map of the water resources of Cape Town, from November 2005:

We can categorize the water resources largely into two: groundwater and surface water.
GROUNDWATER
There are four groundwater resrouces that exist in the Cape Metropolitan area. They are:
1. Albion Springs
3. Cape Flats Aquifer
4. Newlands Aquifer
SURFACE WATER
There are 4 dams and one river that are the major sources of water from the surface water supplies the city has.
They are the:

Amongst the various water resources that Cape Town has, there are serious pollution issues that are brought about in the news of Cape Town as a major concern. In the year of 2000, it became so bad to a point that South Africa had one of its biggest health threats – 265 people dead and 117,147 infected due to water-contamination-induced cholera epidemic.
Such contamination of water are a results of the following major problems:

- this water is treated with chlorine and lime before pubped directly in the reticulation system of the town.
3. Cape Flats Aquifer
4. Newlands Aquifer

There are 4 dams and one river that are the major sources of water from the surface water supplies the city has.
They are the:
- Theewaterskloof Dam
- Voelvlei Dam
- Wemmershoek Dam
- Steenbras Upper and Lower Dam
- the Palmiet River.

- Poor management of dams with lack of purification of water – the higher levels of pollutants in this drinking water will lead to sicknesses.
- Poor maintenance of municipal water and sewage system
